The 3rd International Open Water Swimming Marathon will take place in April 2026 at the scenic Fig Tree Bay in Protaras, marking a new era for aquatic sports in Cyprus. This landmark event – a collaboration between the Cyprus Swimming Federation (KOEK), Paralimni Municipality, and Parallax Experience – is officially included in the European Aquatics Calendar. This prestigious status means the competition will attract both international and local athletes, featuring diverse categories including Master, Open Men and Open Women, alongside various Youth categories, and offering a high-level racing platform that contributes to international competition standards.

Our vision is to promote the sport of open water swimming around the country, create equal opportunities for everyone to participate and establish high calibre competition as an annual tradition, as well as becoming one of the leading aquatic competitions in Europe. 

Protaras Open Water mission is all about bringing high level swimming competition to the island and through sport and sportsmanship values create lasting social change and better place for future generations.

From Local Strength to Global Waters…
Develop and introduce the “Aquatic Guardians” program to foster environmental engagement among younger audiences. Organize community-based cleanup swims and water quality workshops for schools and local groups.

Eruopean Aquatics Open Water Swimming Cup

European Aquatics is the continental governing body for aquatic sports in Europe, affiliated with World Aquatics, and comprises 52 national swimming federations. Organized in 1927, its mission is to oversee and promote five key disciplines: swimming, diving, artistic swimming, water polo, and open water swimming.

Open Water Swimming is a rapidly growing discipline and is recognized for its high level of global competitiveness, with European athletes securing 23 out of 30 Olympic 10km medals since 2008. Elite standards are showcased at the European Aquatics Championships, the most prestigious continental event, where nations like Italy and Germany dominate the medal tables
